Ramon Magsaysay

Ramon's Achievements and Challenges:

1) In early August 1950 he offered President Quirino a plan to fight he Communist guerillas, using his own experiences in guerrilla warfare during World War 2.

2) In June 1952 Magsaysay made a goodwill tour to the United States and Mexico. He visited New York, Washington, D.C. (with a medical check-up at Walter Reed Hospital) and Mexico City where he spoke at the Annual Convention of Lions International.

3) He led the foundation of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization also known as the Manila Pact of 1954, that aimed to defeat communist-Marxist movements in South East Asia, South Asia and the Southwest Pacific.

4) He made Malacanang Palace literally a "house of the people", opening it's gates to the public.
Elpidio E. Quirino

Elpidio's Achievements and Challenges:

1) His first official act as the President was the proclamation of a state mourning throughout the country for Roxas' death.

2) He revived President Quezon's "fireside chats", in which he enlightened the people on the activities of the republic by the periodic radio broadcasts from the Malacanang Palace.

3) Quirino assumed the presidency on April 17, 1948, taking his oath of office two days after the death of Manuel Roxas.
Manuel Roxas

Manuel's Achievements and Challenges

1) He delineated the main policies of his administration, mainly, closer ties with the United States, adherence to the newly-created United Nations Organization, reconstruction of war devastated country, relief for the masses, social justice to the working class, maintenance of peace and order, preservation of individual rights and liberties of the citizenry and honesty and efficiency of government office.

2) Roxas served as the President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines in a brief period , from his subsequent election on May 28, 1946 to July 4, 1946, the scheduled date of the proclamation of Philippine Independence.

3) Roxas prepared the groundwork for the advent of a free and independent Philippines, assisted by the Congress.

4) On 1948, Roxas declared amnesty for those arrested for collaborating with the Japanese during World War 2, except for those who had committed violent crimes.
